Seven people were arrested in a sweep Thursday of “illegal cannabis storefronts” in Ottawa, Smiths Falls and Carleton Place.
The raids were conducted as part of a “provincial joint cannabis enforcement team” comprising officers from provincial police, Ottawa Police Service and Smiths Falls Police Service.
Six locations were raided: four in Ottawa and one each in Smiths Falls and Carleton Place.
Police did not disclose the addresses of the sites, saying only that “five of these targets were store fronts for a commercial chain,” while the other was a warehouse.
Seized were a “large quantity” of suspected cannabis oil and seeds, along with “contraband cannabis products ranging from lip balms to pet drops.”
Investigators estimated the value of the property as “nearly $70,000.”
Arrested were Connor Leblanc, 20, Sheri Timlin, 32, Tara Linda McInnes, 31, Kristie Moreau, 40, and Efran Mohamed, 40, all of Ottawa; Kaitlyn Barber, 28, of Smiths Falls; and Michaela Dawn Henderson, 20, of Carleton Place.
They were charged with possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling, under the federal Cannabis Act.
Mohamed was also charged with being part of an organization unlawfully distributing cannabis, under the Cannabis Act.
All of them have been released and are scheduled to appear at various locations of the Ontario Court of Justice on future dates.
